IPSC 3-Gun Match 3rd Sat of Each Month
The IPSC 3-Gun match is an action style shooting event that utilizes three types of firearms during the match. The action part is you will not be shooting on a static line at a static target; you will be moving and shooting from different positions of varied distances. Scores are based on time to complete the stage and accuracy of the shooting. We generally shoot 5 stages in a match. The firearms involved are pistol, rifle, and shotgun. To compete in the three gun division you need a center fire pistol in .38/9mm or larger, a center fire rifle (pistol or rifle caliber is fine), and a shotgun 12-20 gauge. Most stages use a single firearm but we do multi-gun stages where you will use 2 or 3 firearms on a single stage.
In addition to the ear and eye protection, firearms, magazines, and ammo you will need a belt and holster for your pistol. Additional equipment is nice to have and can be picked up over time. I never recommend a new shooter to just start buying stuff. I recommend you come by the match or shoot the match with what you have and gain in the experiences of what works and what does not from the experienced shooters before you start spending significant money on gear. For more information feel free to check out the match website. http://www.pmrpc3gun.com We do registration in the action area at 8:30 and walk-through followed by shooting at 9AM. Members of the club shoot for $10 and non-members are welcome and shoot for $15. Juniors (under 18) shoot for free but must be accompanied by a guardian. Ensure the junior is well versed in basic gun safety. We try and be finished and cleaned up by 1 or 2.
In order to be accommodating for shooters we have allowed a few other divisions to help get more people out and shooting. We have started a rim fire division which consists of a .22 pistol and rifle. For the shotgun parts the shooter shoots the rim fire pistol. We also allow shooters to shoot entire match with a pistol in order to get more trigger time or if they don't have all the gear. The match is setup for 3-Gun so at times you will be shooting a rifle stage with a pistol which can be pretty challenging but can also be pretty rewarding. Since we allow pistol we also allow the entire match to be shot with a pistol caliber rifle. This and rim fire is a good starting point for juniors until they work up to center fire pistol and shotgun.
